A Hedley Motor Engineers operates two MOT bays licensed for Class 4, 5, and 7 vehicles, which means we can test standard cars and people carriers as well as larger vans and commercial vehicles that exceed the capacity of many local testing stations. What the MOT Covers

The test follows a standardised checklist set by the DVSA. Items are assessed and categorised as either a pass, an advisory, a minor defect, a major defect, or a dangerous defect. Major and dangerous defects result in a failure; advisories are recorded but don’t fail the vehicle, though they’re worth keeping an eye on.

The checklist includes:

• Brakes, including performance and overall condition
• Steering and suspension components
• Tyres, covering tread depth, condition, and correct fitment
• Lights and indicators
• Windscreen and wipers
• Seatbelts
• Exhaust emissions
• Vehicle structure and bodywork

Advisories Are Worth Taking Seriously

An advisory means something is within the legal limit now but showing signs of wear. A tyre recorded as an advisory one year may well be a failure the next. We’ll always talk you through any advisories on your certificate so you have a clear picture of what to monitor and when it’s likely to need attention.

A Pre-MOT Check Is Often Worth It

If your vehicle hasn’t been serviced recently, or if you have a nagging concern about something, a pre-MOT inspection can be a sensible first step. We can identify obvious issues before the test and resolve them ahead of time, which avoids a failure on something straightforward. If Your Vehicle Fails

We’ll explain clearly what failed and why, and give you a firm price for the remedial work before anything is started. Once repairs are complete, we’ll carry out the retest. Nothing will be recommended beyond what’s genuinely needed to get your vehicle through.
